The time of the class is 8:30-10:00am, Wednesdays and the place is 2124 Siebel Center. The first class will be on Sept. 1, as Aug. 25 would be treated as a Monday.

This is a seminar course on text data mining. Text data mining, or simply text mining, is not a well-defined concept. In a very broad sense, it can mean any manipulation of text information. In a narrow sense, which seems to be more reasonable, it refers to the exploitation of online text information to discover useful hidden patterns from text. With more and more online text information available, text mining has many applications, especially in bioinformatics, humanity science, and intelligence communities. In this course, we will selectively read recent research papers on text mining and focus on its applications in web mining and bioinformatics.
